LONDON, April 3 (Xinhua) -- British lawmakers on Wednesday night voted to support a bill that rules out no-deal and delays Britain's departure from the European Union in a narrow margin.

The cross-party bill, which was fast-tracked through the House of Commons earlier Wednesday, was approved by MPs by 315 to 310 votes after its second reading.

The proposal would legally bind British Prime Minister Theresa May into seeking a Brexit extension beyond April 12 in the absence of a deal that has been approved by the parliament.

Britain has until April 12, the latest Brexit date, to propose a plan to the European Union, which must be accepted by them, or the country will leave the regional bloc without a deal.

Earlier Wednesday, lawmakers voted against holding further round of "indicative votes" on Brexit options with only nine days to go until the latest Brexit date.

Talks on a possible Brexit compromise set to continue on Thursday after an "inconclusive" meeting between May and Jeremy Corbyn, leader of the opposition Labour Party, failed to achieve a breakthrough on Wednesday.

The meeting sparked fury among some Conservatives, with two ministers quitting May's government and a string of backbenchers voicing their anger during the prime minister's Questions in the House of Commons on Wednesday.
