DAR ES SALAAM, July 3 (Xinhua) -- The Confucius Institute at the University of Dar es Salaam, in collaboration with China's Chang Jiang Printing Media Co., Ltd., on Thursday unveiled a new two-volume book titled "Overview of China."

Tailored for Chinese language learners in Tanzania, the book consists of two volumes, each comprising 12 chapters that cover a total of 19 themes, primarily aimed at enhancing linguistic proficiency, according to Zhang Xiaozhen, the Chinese director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Dar es Salaam.

The book is designed to provide Tanzanian students with a strong foundation in both the Chinese language and culture, deepening their understanding of Chinese cultural practices, Zhang added.

The launch ceremony took place at the Confucius Institute, officiated by the University of Dar es Salaam Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Bonaventure Rutinwa, alongside Li Zhi, general manager of the Chinese publishing company.

Li said that the book series explores various aspects of Chinese life and culture to help Tanzanian readers gain a broader understanding of the nation.

Rutinwa expressed hope that the book series will encourage students to continue advancing their Chinese language skills, also calling upon the Confucius Institute to translate the book series into Kiswahili to make the content accessible to a broader local audience.

Xu Yongliang, the representative of the Chinese ambassador to Tanzania, said that more efforts should be made to jointly release textbooks aligned with Tanzania's curricula, culturally relevant learning materials, and increase the publication of Chinese educational content in Swahili.
