UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Calling on global joint efforts to act powerfully in mitigating climate change, French President Emmanuel Macron said Monday that countries should include climate agenda in their trade and finance policies.

"We need to have a trade agenda that is consistent with our climate agenda," said Macron during the Climate Action Summit held at the UN headquarters.

The French president asked nations to keep climate change in mind and avoid importing goods that increase carbon pollution or financing polluting plants in other countries.

"Each of us within our own trade and finance agendas has to follow this line of thinking," he emphasized.

Macron also urged nations to increase their contributions to the Green Climate Fund, which assists developing countries in adaptation and mitigation practices to counter climate change.

France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Norway, Denmark and Sweden have recently doubled their contributions, noted the French president.

"We are now at 7 billion U.S. dollars," Macron said, adding that the target is 10 billion dollars to make up for the U.S. withdrawal.

More than 60 world leaders are scheduled to speak at the Climate Action Summit, which aims to boost ambition and accelerate action to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement.
