WASHINGTON, May 18 (Xinhua) -- A man was arrested early Friday morning at the Trump National Doral Club outside Miami, U.S. state of Florida, after a shootout with officers, police said.

Police were notified of an "active shooter" in the Trump-owned resort at about 1:30 a.m. (0530 GMT), Doral Police Chief Hernan Organvidez told reporters.

Officers confronted the gunman immediately and exchanged gunfire with him before he was neutralized and taken into custody with gunshot wounds, according to authorities.

Apart from the shooter, one officer sustained a broken wrist during the altercation.

"The subject came in and removed the flag from the flag pole at the rear of the complex. He brought it into the hotel lobby and draped it over the counter, and began to yell out anti-President Trump rhetoric," said Miami-Dade Police Director Juan Perez.

Police said there was gunfire before officers arrived at the scene.

The shooter was identified as a 42-year-old resident of Doral, armed with a semi-automatic handgun. His motive remained unclear.

In addition to local police, officials from the Department of Homeland Security and the Secret Service were on the scene. The FBI was also involved in the investigation.

The club was purchased by the Trump Organization in 2012. Its website describes it as an 800-acre (323-hectare) resort with over 640 guest rooms, more than 100,000 square feet (9,290 square meters) of event space and four golf courses.
